Austin is known for many things. For one, it is the capital of the great state of Texas. It is famous for its outstanding food, especially the barbecue. The city is also renowned for the great live music revenues. Above all, it’s known for its general sense of weirdness (let’s Keep Austin Weird). However, did you know that Austin is home to numerous murals? You can find unique and colorful street art all over the city. Check out this list of the best murals in Austin and where to find them! Grab your camera and have fun taking photos in front of these walls.
1. Greetings from Austin
1720 S 1st St, Austin, TX 78704
The Greetings from Austin mural is perhaps the most popular mural in Austin! You can find this classic photo spot on the side of the Roadhouse Relics building. With a bit patience, you can have the entire mural to yourself.
2. Love from Austin
1912 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704
This mural took me a bit longer to find, but search for Prima Dora, a funky souvenir shop, in Google Maps, and you’ll spot this mural on the side of the building. Don’t forget to check out the shop for all things related to Austin, Texas!
3. Tau Ceti
E 2nd St &, Brazos St, Austin, TX 78701
One of Austin’s newest murals (and its tallest), Tau Ceti is a sight to be seen! It was completed in November 2018 and stands at a height of 103 feet (10 floors). It is painted on the side of a parking garage and has certainly added a lot of character to the corner of Brazos and 2nd St. I love the bright colors of this mural!
4. You’re My Butter Half
2000 E Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Austin, TX 78702
Who else is a sucker for puns? Even if you’re not, this adorable mural is bound to make you smile. This mural is as southern as it gets, y’all.
5. Historic 6th Street Mural
582 N Interstate 35 Frontage Rd, Austin, TX 78701
Located on a busy intersection, the Historic 6th Street Mural boasts all best things Austin has to offer. It pays homage to the many things Austin is known for: live music, Texan pride, and southern hospitality.
